Terms of use

Your account

• You must be at least 13 years old to create an account.
• One account per person. Keep access to your email (and Google account, if you use it) secure: whoever can sign in as you can act as you.
• Choose a username and display name that don’t impersonate anyone or mislead people.
• We may suspend or close accounts that break these terms. You can ask us to delete your account at any time (see the privacy policy).

What you contribute

You keep ownership of the Scout Reports, photos and submissions you contribute. By posting them, you give BLT Atlas a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, display, reproduce, adapt (for example, resize a photo or format a report) and distribute them on BLT Atlas and in promoting it. This licence continues for content that stays on the site after you delete your account, as the privacy policy describes, unless you ask us to remove it.

When you contribute, you confirm that:

• Your Scout Reports describe your own honest experience of the BLT you ate.
• You took your photos, or have the right to share them, and they show the BLT or the restaurant, not identifiable people who haven’t agreed.
• You aren’t reviewing a business you own, work for or compete with, and nobody paid or rewarded you for your report.

Community rules

Don’t post anything that:

• is false, misleading or spam;
• harasses, threatens or demeans anyone, or is hateful;
• shares someone’s personal information;
• is sexually explicit or violent;
• infringes someone else’s rights, or is otherwise unlawful.

Don’t try to break, overload or get around the site’s security or limits, and don’t collect data from the site in bulk (scraping) without our written permission.

We may remove, hide or decline content, and moderators review reports from Scouts. We’re not obliged to host any particular content.

The BLT Index and our independence

The BLT Index is BLT Atlas’s own editorial opinion of a BLT. Restaurants can’t pay to appear, to rank higher or to change a score, and advertising, sponsorships, affiliate relationships, popularity and community ratings are never inputs. Businesses may tell us about factual errors (such as an address or price), which we check like any other information.

Information on the site

We work to keep listings accurate, but menus, prices, hours and ingredients change, and some information comes from Scouts or public sources. Check with the restaurant before you go, and always ask about allergens and dietary needs directly. Links to other websites are for convenience; we’re not responsible for their content.

Some place information comes from OpenStreetMap, © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database Licence. Maps are provided by Mapbox under its own terms.

Our content

The site’s design, text, BLT Index scores, editorial evaluations and the Atlas database as a whole belong to BLT Atlas, except for content Scouts contribute and material from third parties credited on the site. You’re welcome to link to and share pages; please don’t republish our content in bulk.

Disclaimers and liability

BLT Atlas is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. We aren’t responsible for the food or service at any restaurant, or for decisions you make based on the site. To the extent the law allows, BLT Atlas isn’t liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from your use of the site. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that can’t be excluded.

Changes, governing law and contact

We may update these terms. We’ll change the date above, and for significant changes we’ll tell signed-in Scouts on the site; continuing to use the site means you accept the updated terms. These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Questions: bltatlas.admin@gmail.com.
